Kansas' 150th Birthday

Kansas is celebrating its 150th birthday as a state on January 29, 2011. Kansas' birthday coincides with the start of the Civil War, and was one of the events that led up to the Civil War.

In honor of the state's birthday, the Arkansas City Public Library has invited Virgil Dean, historian and editor of the journal "Kansas History," to speak about the Kansas Consitution and the people who created it. The history of "Bleeding Kansas" is fascinating, and we hope you will join us at 2:00 p.m. in the Library.

The Kansas Humanities Council is providing this program at no charge.
